New Balance FuelCell Rebel v5 Women’s Running Shoes

The New Balance FuelCell Rebel v5 is a women’s road running shoe built for runners who want speed without giving up everyday comfort. It suits neutral runners looking for a lightweight trainer for tempo sessions, faster long runs and steady weekly mileage. Designed for sealed roads and footpaths across New Zealand.

This is a performance focused trainer with a race inspired feel, but it is versatile enough for regular training.

Responsive cushioning for faster road running

Underfoot, the FuelCell midsole blends PEBA and EVA foams to create a responsive, energetic ride. You get a noticeable rebound when pushing the pace, while still having enough cushioning for longer efforts.

There is more foam underfoot than previous versions, which improves comfort over distance. The wider and higher geometric midsole design adds stability, especially when cornering or increasing speed late in a run.

The redesigned outsole provides reliable traction on typical NZ road surfaces, including smooth concrete and chip seal. In dry conditions it grips confidently, and in light damp conditions it remains predictable.

Secure fit with lightweight support

The engineered mesh upper keeps airflow moving while holding the foot securely at pace. FantomFit bonded overlays add lightweight structure without adding bulk.

Updates to the heel and tongue improve comfort on longer runs, reducing pressure and helping prevent irritation during higher mileage weeks. Reflective detailing supports visibility for early morning or evening training.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the New Balance FuelCell Rebel v5 good for everyday training?

Yes. It works well as a lightweight daily trainer, especially if you like a responsive and faster feel underfoot.

Is this a carbon plated running shoe?

No. The Rebel v5 does not use a plate. It relies on its PEBA and EVA FuelCell midsole for propulsion and energy return.

What distances is the Rebel v5 best suited for?

It performs well from 5km through to half marathon training on the road. Some runners will also use it for longer runs.

Is it suitable for beginners?

It can suit beginners with efficient mechanics, but those wanting maximum cushioning or strong stability may prefer a more traditional trainer.

How does it compare to a heavier cushioned running shoe?

Compared to max cushioned trainers, the Rebel v5 feels lighter, firmer and more responsive. It is designed for pace rather than slow recovery runs.

  • Cushioning: Soft.

  • Support: Neutral.

  • Weight: 180 grams (One shoe).

  • Heel/Toe Drop: 6mm Drop.

---------------

Cushioning

  • The material that absorbs the impact against the ground. The more cushioning utilised, the softer a shoe will feel underfoot.

Neutral Support

  • Normal sized Arches.

  • During push off there is an even distribution from the front of the foot.

  • The foot lands on the outside of the heel, then rolls inward to absorb the shock and support body weight.

Drop

  • The difference from the heel of the shoe to the forefoot.

  • Shoes with a higher heel drop tend to be preferred by runners that land heel-first.

  • Shoes with a lower heel drop are often favoured by forefoot or midfoot strikers.
