Yonex Nanoflare 001 Clear Badminton Racket
The Yonex Nanoflare 001 Clear badminton racket is a lightweight graphite racket designed for beginner to intermediate badminton players who want easier power and faster swing speed. It suits club players, school competition athletes and social players across New Zealand who value quick handling and controlled clears. Ideal for indoor badminton courts where speed and reaction time matter.
This racket is built to help you generate shuttle speed without overworking your arm. The hi flex shaft stores energy through your swing, making it easier to clear from baseline to baseline and respond quickly in fast doubles exchanges.
On-Court Performance
The Aero Frame reduces air resistance so you can swing faster, especially useful in defensive drives and quick net interceptions. The Isometric™ head shape increases the sweet spot, giving more consistent contact even if your timing is slightly off. That matters in real match play when rallies get fast and fatigue sets in.
Yonex’s Sonic Flare System helps stabilise the frame on impact, improving shuttle hold and directional control. Combined with the slim graphite shaft, the racket feels responsive rather than sluggish. The Control Support CAP improves grip stability and reduces unwanted shaft twist during quick changes of direction.
This model suits players developing clean technique and those stepping up from entry-level aluminium rackets to full graphite construction.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Yonex Nanoflare 001 Clear good for beginners?
Yes. The hi flex shaft and lightweight 5U frame make it easy to generate power and control, ideal for beginners and improving club players in NZ.
What does 5U mean in badminton rackets?
5U refers to the weight category. It indicates a lighter racket, typically around 75 to 79 grams unstrung, which helps with faster swing speed and easier handling.
What string tension should I use on the Nanoflare 001 Clear?
Yonex recommends 20–27 lbs. Beginners usually benefit from lower tension for more power and forgiveness, while intermediate players may prefer higher tension for control.
How does this compare to entry-level aluminium badminton rackets?
The graphite frame and shaft provide better stability, lighter weight and improved shuttle control compared to most aluminium starter rackets.
Is it suitable for advanced tournament players?
It can handle competitive play, but advanced players who prefer stiff shafts and higher power output may choose a higher-end Yonex Nanoflare model.

Badminton Rackets are labelled with two parts that indicate their size:
-
Weight (U number): tells you how heavy the racket is.
-
Grip Size (G number): tells you how thick the handle is.
The grip size will come immediately after the weight code. For example, in 4U5: 4U = racket weight & 5 = Grip Size (circumference).
Racket Weights
Choosing the right racket weight makes a big difference to how you play. Here is a simple breakdown to help you pick the right fit.
-
3F (60-64g): Super light, fastest handling - great for players wanting maximum manoeuvrability.
-
2F (65-69g): Ultra-light, quick reactions - suits defensive or control-focused play.
-
5U (75-79g): Very Light, easy manoeuvring - great for defensive or all-round styles.
-
4U (80-84g): Light and quick - Ideal for doubles and fast rallies.
-
3U (85-89g): Balanced weight - all-round styles and the most popular option traditionally.
Grip Sizes
Badminton racket grips should be big enough so that when holding the handle correctly (like shaking someone's hand), the tip of your ring finger shouldn't touch your palm.
-
G4 - 86mm circumferential grip size.
-
G5 - 83mm circumferential grip size.
-
G6 - 80mm circumferential grip size.
If you are unsure of your racket grip size, you can always opt for the smaller option and make it bigger with the addition of an overgrip.
Please note: racket weights and grip sizes can vary slightly between brands.
