YONEX Astrox 01 Ability Badminton Racket
The Yonex Astrox 01 Ability badminton racket is a full graphite racket built for beginner to intermediate players who want more control and stronger attacking shots. It is suited to school competitions, club badminton and regular social play across New Zealand.
This model offers a step up from entry level composite rackets, giving players better frame stability and more consistent response.
On Court Performance
With a 310 mm balance point, the Astrox 01 Ability sits in the head heavy category. That extra weight in the head helps generate stronger acceleration through the shuttle, resulting in steeper smash angles and more penetration from the rear court.
The Rotational Generator System distributes weight through the handle, shaft and frame to support smoother transitions between shots. In match situations, that means you can attack with a full smash and recover quickly for the next drive or block.
Full graphite construction improves overall feel and reduces unwanted vibration compared to basic alloy frames. Players notice better shuttle feedback on contact, which supports improved control on drives and net shots.
Balance Point: 310 mm
Balance: Head heavy
This racket comes factory strung with brand recommended strings inclusive in the price.

As a guide only, please allow for 3 – 7 working days for custom stringing to be completed.
Badminton Rackets are labelled with two parts that indicate their size:
-
Weight (U number): tells you how heavy the racket is.
-
Grip Size (G number): tells you how thick the handle is.
The grip size will come immediately after the weight code. For example, in 4U5: 4U = racket weight & 5 = Grip Size (circumference).
Racket Weights
Choosing the right racket weight makes a big difference to how you play. Here is a simple breakdown to help you pick the right fit.
-
3F (60-64g): Super light, fastest handling - great for players wanting maximum manoeuvrability.
-
2F (65-69g): Ultra-light, quick reactions - suits defensive or control-focused play.
-
5U (75-79g): Very Light, easy manoeuvring - great for defensive or all-round styles.
-
4U (80-84g): Light and quick - Ideal for doubles and fast rallies.
-
3U (85-89g): Balanced weight - all-round styles and the most popular option traditionally.
Grip Sizes
Badminton racket grips should be big enough so that when holding the handle correctly (like shaking someone's hand), the tip of your ring finger shouldn't touch your palm.
-
G4 - 86mm circumferential grip size.
-
G5 - 83mm circumferential grip size.
-
G6 - 80mm circumferential grip size.
If you are unsure of your racket grip size, you can always opt for the smaller option and make it bigger with the addition of an overgrip.
Please note: racket weights and grip sizes can vary slightly between brands.
