YONEX Astrox 99 GAME Badminton Racket

The Yonex Astrox 99 Game badminton racket is a head heavy attacking racket designed for intermediate badminton players building a stronger offensive game. It suits competitive club players and developing tournament athletes across New Zealand who want more punch from the rear court and sharper control at the net. Built for indoor badminton where fast transitions and clean timing matter.

This model delivers many of the performance features of the Astrox series in a more forgiving setup than the Tour or Pro versions.

On Court Performance

The head heavy balance helps drive momentum through smashes and deep clears. In doubles, that means stronger rear court pressure and better ability to finish rallies. In singles, it supports steep attacking angles when pushing opponents behind the baseline.

The Rotational Generator System distributes weight through the handle, shaft and frame to improve shot recovery. After a full smash, the racket comes back into position smoothly for the next block or drive.

Namd graphite in the shaft increases snapback, helping the shaft flex and return quickly through impact. With a medium flex profile, it provides a balance of power and control that suits intermediate players refining technique.

At 10 mm longer than standard length, the frame adds leverage for overhead shots without feeling overly demanding.

Specifications

  • Balance: Head Heavy

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Astrox 99 Game and Tour?

The Game version has a medium flex shaft, making it more forgiving. The Tour version is stiffer and aimed at advanced players seeking sharper control.

Is the Yonex Astrox 99 Game suitable for beginners?

It is better suited to intermediate players. Beginners may find a lighter, more flexible badminton racket easier to control.

Is this racket good for doubles in NZ club play?

Yes. The head heavy balance supports strong rear court smashes, while the Rotational Generator System helps with quicker recovery between shots.

Does the extra 10 mm length increase power?

Yes. The added length increases leverage on overhead shots, helping generate stronger smashes and deeper clears.

What string tension should I choose?

The recommended range is 20 to 28 lbs. Intermediate players often choose mid range tension for a blend of power and control.

*Frame Only - please purchase strings separately if required.

Customised string selection and tension requests are available once this racket is added to cart. If you purchase strings, we will string the racket for no extra (labour) cost. For assistance, please email info@playerssports.co.nz

Badminton Rackets are labelled with two parts that indicate their size:

  • Weight (U number): tells you how heavy the racket is.

  • Grip Size (G number): tells you how thick the handle is.

The grip size will come immediately after the weight code. For example, in 4U5: 4U = racket weight & 5 = Grip Size (circumference).

Racket Weights

Choosing the right racket weight makes a big difference to how you play. Here is a simple breakdown to help you pick the right fit.

  • 3F (60-64g): Super light, fastest handling - great for players wanting maximum manoeuvrability.

  • 2F (65-69g): Ultra-light, quick reactions - suits defensive or control-focused play.

  • 5U (75-79g): Very Light, easy manoeuvring - great for defensive or all-round styles.

  • 4U (80-84g): Light and quick - Ideal for doubles and fast rallies.

  • 3U (85-89g): Balanced weight - all-round styles and the most popular option traditionally.

Grip Sizes

Badminton racket grips should be big enough so that when holding the handle correctly (like shaking someone's hand), the tip of your ring finger shouldn't touch your palm.

  • G4 - 86mm circumferential grip size.

  • G5 - 83mm circumferential grip size.

  • G6 - 80mm circumferential grip size.

If you are unsure of your racket grip size, you can always opt for the smaller option and make it bigger with the addition of an overgrip.

Please note: racket weights and grip sizes can vary slightly between brands.
