YONEX Astrox 99 Tour Badminton Racket
The Yonex Astrox 99 Tour badminton racket is a head heavy, stiff shaft performance racket built for serious attacking players. It suits advanced club and tournament level badminton players in New Zealand who want strong overhead power and fast control at the net.
This is built for players with solid technique who can generate swing speed and want to convert that into steep smashes and controlled front court pressure.
Match Performance
The head heavy balance works with the Rotational Generator System to move weight through the handle, shaft and frame for smoother transitions between shots. In real match play, that means you can hit a full smash from the back court and still recover quickly for the next exchange.
Namd graphite in the shaft improves snapback, helping the shuttle leave the strings with greater speed. The stiff flex keeps the frame stable on impact, giving advanced players more directional control on drives and tight net shots.
The AERO+ BOX FRAME blends faster swing through the air with solid shuttle hold. Combined with the Solid Feel Core and tungsten weighting, it produces a firm, connected response rather than a hollow feel.
The Power Assist Bumper adds weight to the top of the frame to increase smash penetration. This is especially noticeable in singles and attacking doubles when you are looking to finish rallies.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Yonex Astrox 99 Tour suitable for beginners?
No. The stiff shaft and head heavy balance are best suited to advanced players with established technique and strength.
What string tension should I use on the Astrox 99 Tour?
The recommended range is 20 to 28 lbs. Advanced players often string toward the higher end for control, while others may prefer mid range tension for a balance of power and feel.
Is the Astrox 99 Tour better for singles or doubles?
It performs strongly in both. The head heavy balance supports powerful singles play, while the Rotational Generator System helps with fast transitions in attacking doubles.
What does 10 mm longer mean for performance?
The extended length increases leverage, which can add power to smashes and clears, particularly for players who hit from the rear court.
*Frame Only - please purchase strings separately if required.

Badminton Rackets are labelled with two parts that indicate their size:
-
Weight (U number): tells you how heavy the racket is.
-
Grip Size (G number): tells you how thick the handle is.
The grip size will come immediately after the weight code. For example, in 4U5: 4U = racket weight & 5 = Grip Size (circumference).
Racket Weights
Choosing the right racket weight makes a big difference to how you play. Here is a simple breakdown to help you pick the right fit.
-
3F (60-64g): Super light, fastest handling - great for players wanting maximum manoeuvrability.
-
2F (65-69g): Ultra-light, quick reactions - suits defensive or control-focused play.
-
5U (75-79g): Very Light, easy manoeuvring - great for defensive or all-round styles.
-
4U (80-84g): Light and quick - Ideal for doubles and fast rallies.
-
3U (85-89g): Balanced weight - all-round styles and the most popular option traditionally.
Grip Sizes
Badminton racket grips should be big enough so that when holding the handle correctly (like shaking someone's hand), the tip of your ring finger shouldn't touch your palm.
-
G4 - 86mm circumferential grip size.
-
G5 - 83mm circumferential grip size.
-
G6 - 80mm circumferential grip size.
If you are unsure of your racket grip size, you can always opt for the smaller option and make it bigger with the addition of an overgrip.
Please note: racket weights and grip sizes can vary slightly between brands.
