YONEX VA Astrox 100 Tour Badminton Racket

The Yonex VA Astrox 100 Tour badminton racket is a head heavy, extra stiff performance racket built for serious attacking players. It suits strong intermediate to advanced badminton players in New Zealand who play competitive club, interclub and tournament matches. Designed for indoor court use where speed, timing and control under pressure matter.

Part of the VA Collection, this model is made for players who generate their own swing speed and want maximum shuttle penetration from the rear court.

Match Performance

The head heavy balance drives weight through the shuttle on smashes and deep clears. In singles, that means stronger baseline pressure. In doubles, it supports aggressive rear court play and decisive put aways.

The Rotational Generator System distributes weight through the grip, shaft and frame to improve shot transitions. After a full smash, the racket recovers quickly for the next block or drive, which is critical in fast exchanges.

Namd graphite in the shaft increases snapback speed. Combined with the extra stiff flex, it produces a sharp, direct response that experienced players can use for tight net control and precise placement.

At 10 mm longer than standard length, the frame adds leverage to overhead shots without sacrificing control in front court exchanges.

Specifications

  • Balance: Head Heavy

  • Shaft Flex: Extra Stiff

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Yonex Astrox 100 Tour suitable for intermediate players?

Yes, for strong intermediate players with good technique. The extra stiff shaft requires clean timing and consistent swing speed.

What is the difference between the Astrox 100 Tour and Game versions?

The Tour has an extra stiff shaft for greater control and sharper response. The Game version uses a medium flex shaft and is more forgiving.

Is this badminton racket good for doubles?

Yes. The head heavy balance supports powerful rear court smashes, while the Rotational Generator System assists with faster recovery between shots.

What string tension should I use on the Astrox 100 Tour?

The recommended range is 20 to 28 lbs. Advanced players often choose higher tension for control, while some may prefer mid range for a balance of power and feel.

Does the 10 mm extra length improve power?

Yes. The added length increases leverage on overhead shots, which can help generate stronger smashes and deeper clears.

*Frame Only - please purchase strings separately if required.

Customised string selection and tension requests are available once this racket is added to cart. If you purchase strings, we will string the racket for no extra (labour) cost. For assistance, please email info@playerssports.co.nz

As a guide only, please allow for 3 – 7 working days for custom stringing to be completed.

Badminton Rackets are labelled with two parts that indicate their size:

  • Weight (U number): tells you how heavy the racket is.

  • Grip Size (G number): tells you how thick the handle is.

The grip size will come immediately after the weight code. For example, in 4U5: 4U = racket weight & 5 = Grip Size (circumference).

Racket Weights

Choosing the right racket weight makes a big difference to how you play. Here is a simple breakdown to help you pick the right fit.

  • 3F (60-64g): Super light, fastest handling - great for players wanting maximum manoeuvrability.

  • 2F (65-69g): Ultra-light, quick reactions - suits defensive or control-focused play.

  • 5U (75-79g): Very Light, easy manoeuvring - great for defensive or all-round styles.

  • 4U (80-84g): Light and quick - Ideal for doubles and fast rallies.

  • 3U (85-89g): Balanced weight - all-round styles and the most popular option traditionally.

Grip Sizes

Badminton racket grips should be big enough so that when holding the handle correctly (like shaking someone's hand), the tip of your ring finger shouldn't touch your palm.

  • G4 - 86mm circumferential grip size.

  • G5 - 83mm circumferential grip size.

  • G6 - 80mm circumferential grip size.

If you are unsure of your racket grip size, you can always opt for the smaller option and make it bigger with the addition of an overgrip.

Please note: racket weights and grip sizes can vary slightly between brands.
