Gunn & Moore Galaxy Signature Senior Cricket Bat

The Gunn & Moore Galaxy Signature Senior Cricket Bat is a Grade 2 English willow cricket bat designed for accomplished club players who want the versatile Galaxy shape at a more accessible price point than the premium Original models. Its 555 mm blade, F2 face profile and mid-to-high swell create a balanced shape suited to batters who score from both front and back foot.

The defining feature of the Galaxy is its mid-to-high swell position. More of the bat's profile is carried through the middle and upper areas of the blade than on a low-profile cricket bat, creating a versatile hitting zone for players who use a broad range of strokes.

This makes the Galaxy particularly relevant to all-round stroke-makers. It provides a shape suited to driving on the front foot while also supporting players who regularly cut, pull and score off the back foot. For cricketers playing across multiple formats, the Galaxy provides the versatility to adapt between attacking T20 cricket, one-day matches and longer innings.

The Galaxy Signature is made in Nottingham, England, continuing Gunn & Moore's long-standing English bat-making production.

GM NOW! preparation

The Gunn & Moore Galaxy Signature comes with GM NOW! preparation, protective facing and ToeTek™ fitted, reducing the preparation required before you begin using the bat.

Even with GM NOW! preparation, we recommend gradually introducing any new English willow bat to harder impacts. Begin with gentle throwdowns using an older cricket ball, then progress through spin and seam bowling in the nets before facing a hard new ball at full match intensity.

What should you consider before buying?

The Galaxy's mid-to-high swell is the main profile characteristic to consider. Players specifically looking for a lower sweet spot for predominantly front-foot hitting may be better suited to a lower-profile bat.

Willow grade is another consideration. The Signature uses Grade 2 English Willow, while the Galaxy Original models use Grade 1 willow. Grade 2 can have more visual imperfections than Grade 1, but this does not necessarily mean a Grade 2 bat will perform poorly. Pick-up, weight, profile and the characteristics of the individual cleft remain important when choosing your bat.

Frequently asked questions

What grade of willow is the GM Galaxy Signature?

The Gunn & Moore Galaxy Signature is made from Grade 2 English Willow. It provides a more accessible alternative to the Grade 1 Galaxy Original models while retaining the Galaxy's versatile mid-to-high profile.

Who is the GM Galaxy Signature best suited to?

The Galaxy Signature is best suited to regular club cricketers and versatile stroke-makers who want an English willow bat for scoring from both front and back foot. Its mid-to-high swell makes it particularly suitable to players who use a broad range of shots rather than focusing predominantly on front-foot power.

What is the difference between the Galaxy Signature and Galaxy Original?

The main difference is the willow grade. The Galaxy Signature uses Grade 2 English Willow, while the Galaxy Original uses Grade 1 English Willow. Both use the Galaxy profile, so the Signature is particularly attractive to players who want the same general shape at a more accessible price point.

Does the GM Galaxy Signature need knocking in?

The Galaxy Signature comes with GM NOW! preparation, protective facing and ToeTek™ fitted, reducing the preparation required. We still recommend gradually introducing the bat to harder cricket-ball impacts, beginning with gentle throwdowns and an older ball before progressing through net sessions and eventually a hard new match ball.

How is the GM Galaxy different from the Noir, Maxi or Rival shapes?

The Galaxy has a mid-to-high swell, while the Noir, Maxi and Rival use lower swell profiles designed more around front-foot power. The Galaxy is therefore particularly suited to players looking for a versatile profile for front and back-foot stroke play.

Is Grade 2 English willow good for club cricket?

Yes. Grade 2 English willow is an excellent option for regular club cricket, particularly for players who prioritise performance and value. It may have more cosmetic variation than premium Grade 1 willow, but willow appearance alone does not determine how well an individual cricket bat will perform.

This Gunn & Moore bat comes fitted with a facing, GM NOW! and ToeTek™ so you can hit the nets straight away skipping the knock in process if you like.

GM NOW!

  • “Knocked-in” by the Gunn & Moore bat makers in Nottingham. Raw linseed oil has been applied to reduce cracking and splitting by maintaining the moisture level of the blade, with a clear bat facing also applied to the face and edges to increase blade durability.

TOETEK ™

  • DriGuard applied to resist dampness and minimise toe swelling. A specially shaped resilient toe shield has also been fitted to toe of bat. This helps reduces toe damage and feathering that is often caused by tapping at the crease. We recommend avoiding tapping your bat at the crease, or only doing so softly.
