The Hope for Hollie cricket bat grip.

The bestselling Kookaburra chevron batting grip gets a paint job this summer for a very special young lady.

8yo Hollie Beattie has been part of the Players Sports family her whole life. Her Dad John is a foundation staff member and along with her Mum Jo and big brother William the Beattie family has been an integral part of the business from the beginning.

In July 2018 Hollie was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of cancer called Neuroblastoma.

Since then Hollie, and the family, have been on the most harrowing roller coaster.

Hollie finished her initial chemotherapy cycles in December 2018 and following repeat tests it was devastating for all to hear that the chemo had failed to make an impact on the disease in her bone marrow. A heart-breaking outcome.

As a result Hollie was unable to begin the stem cell transplant scheduled for January 2019, and after an agonising week waiting for approval from the United States for an immunotherapy drug, she began a new set of chemo/immunotherapy cycles on 19th December and made it home on Christmas Eve 2018 after the first one.

Hollie was home for 2 weeks and recovered well from the gruelling treatment before returning to what has become the family’s second home - Starship Hospital in Auckland.

Hollie then went through several more cycles of chemo which lead up to two stem cell transplants which concluded in July 2019.

Early in 2020 some more cancer was suspected in Hollie’s leg. After the first COVID-19 lockdown the orthopaedic surgeon advised that they would need to remove part of her tibia, do a bone graft and install a metal plate. Hollie charged through the operation and immediate recovery like the little champion she is.

Then in October 2020, after a stint of respite, the family received the devastating news that cancer had been found in Hollie’s brain.

The family are stoic and always positive, but the future is somewhat uncertain.

All profits from these special grips will be paid directly to the Beattie family to support them on this journey by way of helping with medical expenses as well as special outings for Hollie.

There is also a Givealittle page for the ‘Helping Hollie Fund’: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/helping-hollie-fund which you can visit to track Hollie’s progress over the coming months and donate further if you wish.

All support, big or small, is massively appreciated by John, Jo, William and especially little Hollie.
