Where to Buy Nike Products in New Zealand & Why Players Sports Has a Limited Range

“Why don’t you stock Nike football boots?”

It’s a fair question. Nike is the largest sports brand in the world. Many Kiwi athletes naturally expect to see it in a performance-focused store like Players Sports.

The short answer is this:

We do stock selected Nike products in New Zealand - but not Nike footwear or licensed fan gear.

Do Players Sports Sell Nike Products?

Yes - but only certain categories.

At Players Sports, we currently stock Nike products supplied into New Zealand via authorised third-party distributors. These include:

Nike Football Teamwear

• Jerseys

• Shorts

• Socks

• Jackets

• Hoodies

• Bags

This is performance gear widely used by grassroots and competitive football teams across NZ.

Nike Football Equipment

• Nike football balls

• Shin guards

• Goalkeeper gloves

These are common across junior and senior football in New Zealand.

Nike Training & Fitness Products

• Drink bottles, ball pumps, socks and sweatbands

What we do not currently stock:

• Nike football boots such as Mercurial, Phantom or Tiempo

• Nike running shoes

• Nike basketball footwear

• Licensed fan gear such as NBA jerseys or international football club kits

That limitation comes down to distribution structure - not demand.

Why Don’t You Stock Nike Football Boots or Running Shoes?

Nike’s Global Distribution Strategy Shift

Around 2022 to 2023, Nike significantly reduced its wholesale footprint worldwide.

The company prioritised:

• Direct-to-consumer sales

• Owned retail stores

• Fewer, larger wholesale partners

As part of this strategy, many independent sporting goods retailers globally - including in Australia and New Zealand - were informed their trade accounts would not continue.

Players Sports was one of many affected.

This was a global strategic decision made at Nike HQ level and was not specific to our store or performance positioning.

What Happened in New Zealand Specifically?

In New Zealand:

• Nike ceased local Nike.com online shopping in October 2023

• The New Zealand Nike office structure was wound down

• Wholesale supply was consolidated to a small group of corporate retailers only

• Nike continues to operate physical Nike stores in NZ

As a result, Nike footwear and high-end performance product is largely available through:

• Nike-owned retail stores

• A small number of corporate chain retailers

• Selected overseas retailers shipping to NZ

Independent performance stores like Players Sports are not currently authorised to stock Nike footwear.

Where Can You Buy Nike Football Boots in New Zealand?

If you are specifically looking for Nike boots in NZ, your options are:

1. Nike-Owned Retail Stores

Nike operates physical stores in major New Zealand cities.

2. Selected Corporate Retailers

Some large chain retailers stock Nike footwear, though ranges often lean toward lifestyle and entry-level performance rather than elite football models.

3. Overseas Retailers

Some Kiwi customers order from international football specialists who ship to New Zealand. When doing so, consider:

• GST and duty

What About NZ Based Online Sellers Importing Nike Boots?

Globally, Nike has indicated in recent earnings updates that it is reassessing the balance between direct sales and wholesale partnerships.

Some international wholesale relationships have been reinstated.

However, as of 2026, no independent New Zealand performance retailers have publicly announced reinstated Nike footwear accounts.

If that changes, we would absolutely consider expanding our Nike range again.

There are no hard feelings. It’s business structure, not personal.
