The 1986 Premiership winning Eels team featured icons of the Blue and Gold that include the halves pairing of Brett Kenny and Peter Sterling, and captain Ray Price.

This season was the first season where the Clive Churchill Medal was introduced, with Peter Sterling achieving that honour in the 4-2 Grand-Final victory over the Canterbury Bulldogs.
