During Vince Carter's first year in the NBA and his inaugural season with the Toronto Raptors, the team donned their beloved dinosaur jersey for the last time. Carter made sure that the season was a memorable one, earning the Rookie of the Month award twice and being named the Rookie of the Year by the season's end. His explosive dunks and impressive 18.3 points per game not only contributed to his ROY award but also secured his spot on the 1998-99 All Rookie First Team.

The Toronto Raptors were founded in 1995 as part of the NBA's expansion into Canada, paying homage to the success of the 1993 film Jurassic Park. The team quickly became fan favourites with their recognizable purple team colours. However, in 2008, the Raptors replaced the purple with red, and in 2015, they introduced a new logo featuring raptor claws holding a basketball, replacing the original "Raptor" logo.
